Police detain man, 50, for alleged sexual assault of teenager in Edo

The Police command in Edo has arrested a 50 year-old man for alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Benin City.

The suspect, names withheld, was apprehended following a report by the father of the victim.

The suspect was accused of always looking for an opportunity to fiddle with the teenager, whenever he came on an errand to her parents’ house.

The driver was said to have sexually harassed the girl at different times.

A source said the law caught up with the suspect after the father of the victim got wind of the incident and reported the matter at the police station.

Confirming the arrest, CSP Moses Yamu, spokesperson of the police command, said the suspect would be thoroughly investigated and charged to court.

He, however, advised members of the public to always report cases of rape, indecent assault and defilement to the police for immediate action.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has zero tolerance for cases associated with Gender-Based Violence.
