Employee docked for allegedly stealing employer’s goods worth N187,000

A 40-year-old sales representative, Emmanuel Onu, on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s three cartons of lubricant valued at N187,000.
Onu, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in May at Eshcol Resources in Igborosun, Badagry.
Adeosun said that the defendant stole three cartons of lubricant belonging to the complainant, Mr Adeyemo Olugbenga.
He said that the defendant was handed over to the police when he could not give an account of the missing lubricant.
Adeosun said that the offence contravened Sections 287(7) and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Our correspondent reports that Section 287(7) stipulates seven years jail term for stealing from one’s employer.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Hotepo said one of the sureties must be gainfully employed and should provide evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until June 20 for mention.
