Jandor honours late mother with empowerment centre for girls, women

Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), the Lead Visioner, Lagos4Lagos Movement and APC chieftain has begun the construction of a centre to empower women and girls in Lagos State
Our correspondent reports that the groundbreaking ceremony of the project was performed by Princess Sarah Sosan, a former State Deputy Governor, on Friday, at Ishagira Community Ground, Oto Awori, Ojo area of the state.
The groundbreaking of the proposed centre tagged” A Shelter and Empowerment Centre for Women and Girls”,was part of activities planned for the 5th death anniversary and remembrance of Mrs Olufunmilayo Ruth Adediran, mother of the visioner.
Speaking, Sosan, who congratulated the visioner on the project , said that the centre would help to fulfil part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“As women, we promote things that have to do with women. I think the legacy that you are putting here today will live forever. The legacy of mama lives on.
“I am sure if mama looks down and see what we are doing today, she will just be so excited and be laughing for the kind of children she was been blessed with.
“This project will fulfill its purpose of giving hope to the hopeless, victims of domestic violence and other forms of abuse in riverine areas.
“We love what you are doing and we will continue to pray for you. May you continue to be that shining star for this our land. You are our shining star. We admire you,” she said.
Sosan said that when completed, the centre would help build economic capacity of many youths and help those with mental issues, among others.
She called on other philanthropists to take a cue from Adediran’s visionary leadership to support and help women and the girl-child in riverine communities.
Also speaking, Rep. Shina Peller, a former member of the House of Representatives, who described Adediran’s love for humanity as genuine and unwavering, said issues affecting women were not well addressed in most communities.
Peller recalled how he moved a motion in the lower House on the need to tackle rape and sexual offenders and the need to open Sexual Offenders Register in the country.
He said that the centre would be a shelter for many hopeless and helpless women and girls and would offer training and empowerment for the youth.
In his remark, Adediran said that his siblings came together to immortalise their mother in the 5th remembrance with the project, which, he said, would be completed in a year.
“What we do every year in celebrating my mom is to have a party , but this time we thought of putting up a monument that will stand test of time.
“This monument represents who she (late Mrs Adediran) stood for. The best thing to do is to continue with my mother’s legacy of giving, of taking care of people, women and girls.
“We are putting in place this shelter for women and girls. It’s not just a shelter, but also a training centre to empower people.
“By the time we shall be celebrating her sixth anniversary, this place will be commissioned for public use,” Adediran said.
Our correspondent reports that the event was attended by traditional rulers, including the Oloto of Oto Kingdom, Oba Josiah Aina, the APC Apex Leader for Badagry Division Chief Rabiu Oluwa, former commissioners and lawmakers as well as members of Lagos4Lagos Movement.
