Oborevwori’s China trip to boost investment – Commissioner

Delta Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Mr Charles Aniagwu, on Friday said Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s China trip would boost investment in Delta State.

Aniagwu, who accompanied the governor, spoke during a press conference in Asaba and highlighted potential benefits for the state from the foreign engagement.

He said residents should expect game-changing outcomes, especially in waste management and new investment prospects resulting from Governor Oborevwori’s recent engagements in China.

Present at the briefing were the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, and his Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Mr Olisa Ifeajika.

Aniagwu explained that the governor was invited to the 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) due to Delta’s infrastructure success.

He cited Oborevwori’s commitment to excellence and the administration’s prompt payment system as major reasons for the invitation.

He said: “One, the governor insists on quality work across all state projects, ensuring high standards are met consistently.

“Two, there’s his unprecedented commitment to project mobilisation and timely payment of certified contractors doing genuine work.

“These international contractors have recognised that the Oborevwori model drives real progress and development across the state,” Aniagwu added.

He outlined key focus areas from the China trip, including rural development, waste-to-energy solutions, and investment partnerships.

“We encountered a company that converts waste into energy—a vital solution to Nigeria’s widespread waste disposal challenge.

“You can transform ordinary dump waste into power for homes. That is both innovative and sustainable.

“This impressed the governor, and discussions have begun to explore bringing such solutions to Delta,” he said.

Aniagwu added: “Our invitation to a global construction forum reflects Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and Delta’s transparency in managing infrastructure.

“These traits have earned Delta recognition as a state committed to quality delivery.”

He said the governor’s insistence on global standards won praise from international players at the Macau event.

“Delta contractors now know that quality is non-negotiable, and this enhances confidence in our governance style,” he said.

He disclosed that China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) praised Delta’s infrastructure policy, confirming its alignment with global standards.

CCECC’s commendation, he noted, validates the administration’s credibility and positions the state for future global collaborations.

He said the forum also opened avenues for investment, particularly in waste-to-energy projects that support sustainable development goals.

Aniagwu reaffirmed the state’s dedication to enforcing contracts and maintaining transparency in public project execution.

“Contracts come with timelines and responsibilities. If breached, the government must act in the public interest,” he stated.

He said several contracts have already been revoked and re-awarded due to delays and poor performance.

“This ensures people receive value for money and that critical projects proceed without unnecessary delays,” he said.

Going forward, Aniagwu stressed, non-performing contractors will face contract termination regardless of political backing.

“The governor prioritises outcomes and service to the people. Only competent firms will handle Delta’s projects,” he said.
