<strong>A 39-year-old office assistant, Kayode Ademola, on Thursday appeared before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cables valued at N1.9 million belonging to his employer.

Ademola, who resides at No. 47, Ethopia Street, Barnawa, Kaduna, was facing a two-count of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, said the defendant committed the offences with others at large on June 15 at JK Entertainment Company, Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna.

Leo said the cables, valued at N1.9 million, belonging to the defendants employer, were stolen from the company’s premises.

“When the defendant was invited to the police station for questioning, he confessed to stealing the cables with his friends at large on a Sunday, when nobody came to the office,” he said.

The prosecutor also said Ademola led the police to where he kept the stolen items, some of which were recovered, while he had sold others.
Leo said the offences contravened Sections 58 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kadna State, 2017.

Our correspondent reports that Section 217 prescribes seven years imprisonment for stealing.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to defendant, Joseph .T. Adams, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail, adding that the defendant would always be available to face his trial.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the accused N400,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, must have landed property in kaduna and must have three years tax clearance with the Kaduna State Government.

He adjourned the case until July 30 for hearing.
