Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has distributed 500 electricity transformers to all 44 Local Government Areas.

The distribution was inaugurated at the Rural Electricity Board (REB), Maganda Road, on Sunday.

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Sunday.

Yusuf said that the 500 transformers were procured from reputable companies outside Nigeria.

He expressed immense pride in this first phase of distribution, stating, Yusuf said, “I stand before you today with great pride for this first phase of the distribution of 500 units of various types of transformers across the 44 local government areas.”

The Governor emphasised that this initiative marked a crucial milestone in fulfilling his administration’s campaign promises, particularly to rural communities that have long been deprived of access to electricity.

He highlighted the importance of reliable electricity, stating, Yusuf added, “Access to reliable and stable electricity is not just a basic need; it is a powerful catalyst for economic growth, industrial development, improved healthcare, quality education, and overall social well-being of our people.

“The project is a collaborative effort between the state government and the 44 Local Government Councils.

“The newly acquired transformers include 500, 300, and 200 KVA units, which will be distributed to communities based on their specific needs.”
Yusuf appealed to the residents to protect the transformers installed in their communities.

The governor also announced that the state-owned electricity company has begun evacuating power from the 10-megawatt Tiga Hydro-Power Generation Plant.

He expressed confidence that this project would significantly boost energy supply and the state’s economy.

The Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji AbdulKadir Abdulsalam and ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adu Yusha’u, as well as the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz, praised the initiative.

They described it as a “milestone achievement and a giant stride” that would enhance community development and the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state.
