Infrastructural development: NSCDC promises to reinforce vigilance, protection

The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has promised to adequately secure all Critical National Asset and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the territory.

The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu made the promise during an interview our correspondent on Tuesday in Abuja.

Odumosu said that the redoubled security measures followed the infrastructural development by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Our correspondent reports that the FCT received a face lift after the presidential inauguration of 17 projects to mark President Bola Tinubu’s two years in office.

The commandant stated that the Corps being the lead agency in the protection of CNAI; either old or new must not relent but rather redouble surveillance to avoid vandalism and theft.

“We will not relent; rather we will increase vigilance and our patrol will also be redoubled to ensure that those who might be hopeful of causing havoc or vandalising this infrastructure will be utterly disappointed by our presence.

“So, basically we just have to be on top of our game, deploy more men and ensure that even those we are able to arrest are properly investigated, prosecuted and sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others,” Odumosu said.

Odumosu said that the territory was likely to receive an influx of people from rural communities following the construction of connecting roads across the FCT.

“Most of the recently commissioned projects were associated with roads, hence, more road channels have been opened, more linkages and rural communities have been opened up for businesses.

“ Although this is a good development, criminality and vandalism are likely to be on the rise due to easy transportation of stolen properties.

“Hence, the need for more visibility in terms of patrol during the day and at night, most especially at night which is when we have made lots of arrests,” he said.

According to him, the Federal Government is trying its best to ensure there is development in every sector as that is one of the ways citizens can benefit from the government.

The FCT NSCDC boss, however, said that notwithstanding the number of operational vehicles available to the command there was need for more.

“FCT is big; we have patrol vehicles but because of the nature of security we are to provide, the vehicles available are not enough, that being said, we are however making good use of the available ones.

“The vehicles we have are properly deployed to every nook and cranny of the territory, but of course we need more equipment such as patrol vehicles, communication gadgets amongst others,” Odumosu said.

Odumosu urged community leaders to assist the corps and other security agencies in ensuring adequate protection of these infrastructures by adopting a sense of ownership.
