CAN donates relief materials to Mokwa flood victims in Niger

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has donated relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government area of Niger State.

The Chairman of CAN, Niger Chapter, Rev. Bulus Yohanna, presented the items to the state government on Monday in Minna.

Yohanna extended the association condolences to the government and people of the state as well as families who lost their loved ones in the disaster.

“We are here to let you know that we stand with everyone who has suffered in this disaster,” he said.

Yohanna disclosed that the association had been moblising its members across the 25 local government areas to provide support to the affected communities.

According to him, as a religious body, we have been moblising our members from all local government area who been on ground to assist victims,” he said.

The chairman noted that the items was for affected persons and appreciated the state government quick response in alleviating the suffering of the victims.

He prayed God to grant Gov. Umaru Bago wisdom to succeed and that such calamities should not befall the state again in the future.

Responding, the Deputy Governor , Yakubu Garba, described CAN’s gesture as rewarding.

Garba represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Mairo Mann, noted that humanitarian issue was everybody’s concerns.

She assured that the purpose for the items donated would be utilised and prayed for more unity and love in the state.

Mann added that the government and people of the state should appreciate each other to fight every menace in the state and country at large.

Our correspondent reports that items donated were 10 bags of Maize, five bags of Guinea Corn and 12 bags of assorted clothes, bags and shoes.

Our correspondent recalls that the Mokwa flood disaster occurred on May 29 claimed about 207 lives, displaced 300 households and more than 700 persons were still missing.
