Prioritise citizens’ safety, Gov. Abiodun urges new Amotekun recruits

Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun on Friday, urged the newly recruited officers of the State Security Network, code named, Amotekun Corps, to prioritise the safety of citizens and serve with diligence.

Abiodun, who was represented by his deputy Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, gave the charge during the passing out parade ceremony of 550 new recruits of Batch E, in Sagamu.

According to the governor, the ceremony “marks a defining moment in our collective pursuit of a safer Ogun state”.

He stressed that his administration’s ‘’Building Our Future Together”agenda places the safety of citizens at the core of economic growth, social development and lasting prosperity.

“The recruits are trained on operational efficiency, rule of law, intergovernmental relationships, weapon handling and various security-relevant courses, ” he said.

The governor said that the 550 well trained officers would be deployed across the state, particularly in rural areas where security gaps persist.

He added that the new officers had been provided with essential equipment, operational vehicles, communication tools and bulletproof equipment to support them.

He also disclosed that 15 new operational vehicles had been provided to further strengthen the security infrastructure in the state.

Abiodun noted that the initiative was part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing security and public safety through well-trained personnel.

“This corps was established to complement existing federal security agencies by leveraging community trust and local intelligence.

“This model of community policing continues to demonstrate its value as a key pillar in our security strategy.
“Ogun remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.

“This outcome is a result of strategic planning, sustained investment and collaborative effort; all in a bid to create an environment where people can live and thrive without fear,” he said.

Abiodun, while congratulating the new recruits on the successful completion of their training, encouraged them not to see the passing out parade as merely ceremonial.

He commended the Corps Commander, Rtd. Brigadier-General Alade Adedigba, and the leadership of the Amotekun for their effort in ensuring that the training aligned with best practices in security management.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Corps Commander, Amotekun, Adedigba thanked the state government for its unwavering commitment toward enhancing the security landscape in the state.

He also appreciated Abiodun for believing in them and providing resources to empower the corps in serving the communities.
