Terror: Plateau buries 27 victims of brutal attack

In a heart-wrenching scene that gripped an entire state with sorrow, 27 innocent residents of Bindi community in Plateau’s Riyom Local Government Area were laid to rest in a mass burial, following a savage attack by unknown gunmen.

The July 15 massacre left the community shattered, as ruthless assailants stormed the quiet village, executing a coordinated bloodbath that claimed scores of lives, razed homes, destroyed farmlands, and looted property worth millions. The carnage was both swift and merciless.

In the wake of the violence, Governor Caleb Mutfwang personally visited the grief-stricken community, promising a “befitting burial” for the slain and reaffirming his commitment to justice for the victims.

Amidst wails and prayers, the burial was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, all united in mourning the senseless loss. The ceremony painted a haunting image of lives cut short and families torn apart.

Speaking with a voice choked with emotion, Riyom LGA Chairman Sati Shuwa condemned the relentless bloodshed plaguing rural communities in Plateau.
“We gather in unbearable grief, mourning 27 precious souls ripped from us by cruelty and hate,” he said.

“To the bereaved, your pain is ours. Your loss is a scar across all of Riyom.”

Shuwa did not hold back in calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to take decisive, proactive steps to halt the growing wave of violence that has left Plateau bleeding and fearful.

Despite the tears, silence, and shattered homes, one message rang loud and clear from Bindi: Enough is enough.

This mass burial may be over, but for Plateau, the wounds are still fresh—and the cry for justice, louder than ever.
