A peaceful evening turned into a nightmare at Chisco Park Junction in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State on Friday night, as a heavy duty tipper, reportedly experiencing sudden brake failure, plowed into unsuspecting bystanders — leaving several feared dead on the spot.

The horrific crash, which occurred around 9:30 p.m., sent shockwaves through the area, as roadside traders, pedestrians, and passengers waiting to board vehicles were violently swept aside by the speeding vehicle. Chaos erupted as eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying moment the tipper lost control and bulldozed through the crowded junction without warning.

“It was like a horror movie,” said one eyewitness. “People were shouting, running, but the truck came so fast. Some were crushed instantly, motorcyclists, a little girl, and traders was just lying lifeless.”

Our correspondent confirmed that victims of the deadly incident included commercial motorcyclists, a child, roadside traders, and other bystanders. Many of them were reportedly going about their usual night businesses when the tragedy struck.

Though the full casualty count was yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report, video footage from a nearby CCTV camera captured the chilling moment the truck veered out of control and crashed into the crowd.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, Mrs. Margaret Onabe, acknowledged the incident and stated that officials are still gathering detailed information. She assured our correspondent that updates would be provided once full facts are available.

As grief blankets the community, the tragic event has sparked urgent calls for stricter regulation of heavy duty vehicles operating in residential and commercial zones at night.
