2025 Judiciary Woman, 39, docked over alleged N9m visa fraud
A 39-year-old woman, Adenike Taiwo, on Thursday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over an alleged N9 million visa fraud.
Taiwo, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretences and fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 14 at No 8, Sango Sanya St. in Agric area of Ikorodu.
Famuyiwa said the defendant collected the N9 million from the complainant, Mrs Mariam Ajibola, that he would help her and her three friends secure visas to Turkey, and Luxemburg, which he failed to do.
He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
“All efforts made by the complainant to get back the money or the visas proved abortive,” the prosecutor said.
Famuyiwa said that the offences contravened Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr O.A. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the the sum of N2million with one surety in like sum,
Ogbe said that the surety must provide evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Sept.4 for mention.
