The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday arrested former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal over alleged N189 billion fraud.

A source close to the commission told our correspondent that the former governor was in the custody of EFCC at its Abuja corporate headquarters.

The source, who preferred anonymity, said that Tambuwal, who served as the governor of Sokoto from 2015 to 2023, was being held over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals to the tune of N189billion.

According to the source, the withdrawals are in flagrant violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Tambuwal, who is now a serving senator, arrived at the EFCC’s headquarters around 11:30 am and was being grilled by interrogators on the alleged financial crime.

EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined comments on the matter.
