Oyebanji reiterates commitment to promote women’s participation in sports

The Governor of Ekiti, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Thursday said his administration would continue to support women’s participation in sports.

Oyebanji gave the assurance while declaring open the 2nd edition of Women in Sports Leadership Seminar for Coaches, Sports officers and Technical officials in South-West zone held in Ado-Ekiti.

The governor who was represented by his Technical Advisor on Sports Development, Dr Olusola Osetoba, said women athletes, when adequately supported, can not only match but out perform their male counterparts.

Oyebanji said his administration are raising Ekiti’s profile in Nigeria’s sporting communities to discover talents in both female and male athletes.

While welcoming participants to Ekiti, the governor assured them of conducive environment and adequate security.

In her address, Prof. Florence Adeyanju, President, Nigeria Olympic Committee Women Commission, commended the women in sports from various states.

Adeyanju said the programme was organised by the Nigeria Olympic Committee in conjunction with Ekiti State Government to improve women active participation in sports development.

She thanked Oyebanji for creating an enabling environment and hosting the 2nd edition of the programme.

Adeyanju urged participants to pay attention, ask questions and enjoy their stay in Ekiti.

Our correspondent reports that as part of the activities of the programme, Osetoba took the participants round the state sports facilities in Ado-Ekiti.

The committee visited the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium and the ongoing construction site of the multi sports hall in Ado-Ekiti.

The seminar will end on Aug. 22
