The Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the election of its Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice- President of the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa.

This is contained in a statement by the authority on Thursday in Lagos.

According to the statement, the ratification took place during the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly held in Lusaka, Zambia.

The statement said that the election was an historic moment for Nigeria and the entire African aviation sector.

It stated that the election not only highlighted Kuku’s leadership capabilities, but also elevated her from her previous role as Regional Advisor for Africa to a permanent member on the ACI World Governing Board.

According to the statement, in her new position, Kuku will champion initiatives aimed at promoting safe and passenger-centric airports and enhancing connectivity throughout Africa.

The statement also highlighted her leadership prowess, saying she had remarkably transformed and repositioned airports and aviation in Nigeria and in the global arena.

It said Kuku’s extensive background in the aviation and finance sectors equipped her to tackle pressing issues such as infrastructure development, complying with safety regulations, and the promotion of sustainable aviation practices.

The statement said her advocacy would focus on the unique challenges facing African airports while creating opportunities for innovation and excellence.

It maintained that with 56 member states across Africa, ACI Africa played a vital role in advocating for the interests of aviation across the continent.

According to the statement, the ACI World Governing Board oversees approximately 2,100 airports globally and is comprised of 814 members across 169 countries.

The statement quoted Kuku as saying: “Being elected as Vice President of ACI Africa is an incredible honour, one that I do not take lightly.

“I am committed to collaborating with my colleagues to ensure that our airports not only meet international standards for safety and efficiency, but also serve as critical drivers of economic growth and connectivity for our nations.
