GTCO reports ₦601bn pre-tax profit in H1 2025, declares interim dividend

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has posted a pre-tax profit of ₦601 billion for the half year ended June 30, 2025, down from ₦1 trillion in the same period of 2024.

According to its unaudited financial results released on Tuesday, profit after tax came in at ₦449.01 billion, representing a sharp decline from ₦905.57 billion a year earlier.

Despite the drop in earnings, the Board of Directors approved an interim dividend of ₦1.00 per share, unchanged from the payout in H1 2024. Shareholders on the Register of Members as of October 7, 2025, will be eligible for the dividend.

The earnings slump followed a steep fall in unrealised gains on financial instruments, with fair value gains tumbling to ₦1.5 billion from ₦331.6 billion in the prior period. This dragged down other income by 91.8 per cent, weakening a key revenue driver for the group.

Revenue slipped 23.1 per cent year-on-year to ₦523.2 billion from ₦680.5 billion. However, net interest income rose 40.1 per cent to ₦318.4 billion, reflecting stronger interest earnings after accounting for deposit costs.

Meanwhile, loan impairment charges dipped marginally by 0.5 per cent, even as credit exposure grew by 15.6 per cent, signalling improvements in asset quality and provisioning efficiency.
