Okpebholo reiterates commitment to partnering Edo diasporans for sustainable growth

Monday Okpebholo of Edo has reiterated his administration’s commitment in partnering indigenes of the state living abroad to achieve more meaningful growth.

Okpebholo who made the reassurance during a dialogue with Edo Diasporans on Monday in Glasgow, Scotland, also presented his administration’s vision centered on innovation, transparency and practical governance.

The dialogue titled “Edo State Global Investment Summit 2025” was convened by the governor in Scotland from Saturday till Monday under the theme “Catalytic partnership: Global funding and local impact”.

The dialogue brought together global leaders, investors and development partners to explore transformative opportunities for sustainable growth in Edo and beyond.

According to him, the theme reminds us that by working closely together, we can transform opportunities into lasting progress for our people.

“Partnerships are symbiotic; each partner gains, contributes and together we achieve far more than we could alone.

“Edo has always been a land of heritage and creativity. From our ancient bronze works to the ingenuity of our youth, resilience runs through our DNA. This is why Edo is open for business.

“We are not asking for charity; we are offering true partnerships. In just eight months, we have renovated 68 schools, commenced the 36km Gelegele road project to serve our future seaport.

“We have inaugurated initiatives in health, infrastructure and livelihoods. The future of Edo is not something we wait for, but create.”

The governor said that his duty was not to sit in the office, but to move around, listen, and get the work done.

“Together, we are building an Edo where every naira counts, every person matters and every promise becomes progress,” he added.

Speaking at the event, Dr Loretta Ogboro-Okor, Director-General, Edo Diaspora Agency (EDSDA) explained that the dialogue was a testament to the power of unity among the state indigenes across borders.

“Our theme reflects our vision of transforming global opportunities into meaningful development at home with the strength of our diaspora, the commitment of our partners and the resilience of our people.

“Edo stands as a beacon of progress, innovation and prosperity,” she said.

Similarly, Amb. Kingsley Obasohan, Director-General, European African Chamber of Commerce and Industries (EACCI), announced a $250 million investment through the Edo Diaspora Agency into the state.

The dialogue featured goodwill messages from Mrs Blessing Ayogu, the Adolor of Emu Kingdom, Esan Edo, the Atayese of Ikateland and Dr Astrid Arens, Senator for Sustainability & Social Responsibility in Business Practice, Federal Association for Economic Development & Foreign Trade (BWA).

Others were the Foreign Trade Advisor for U.S as well as Founder, Nigerian Capital Development Fund (NCDF GROUP) among others.
