Kebbi contractors laud Gov. Idris for patronising local firms

The Kebbi State Association of Contractors (KESAC) has lauded Nasir Idris for patronising local contractors in the execution of key projects in the state.

The Chairman of the association, Alhaji Chiso Nayaya-Ambursa, stated this when he led other contractors on a courtesy visit to the governor in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

He said the governor’s policy of engaging indigenous contractors would promote societal development, encourage local content, save foreign exchange and reduce poverty.

Nayaya-Ambursa commended the governor for given local contractors a sense of belonging and making them active stakeholders in the development of the state.

“ No other state in the federation gives recognition to local contractors like you are doing.

“ We are happy with you for giving us this sense of belonging and we reaffirm our support to your administration.

“ Our members have also decided to procure five iPads for each of the 21 local government areas of the state to record and publicise all projects executed by your administration.

“ This is to counter insinuations by the opposition on alleged non-performance,” Nayaya-Ambursa said.

Responding, Gov. Idris, pledged to reappraise all outstanding debts owed contractors inherited from previous administrations with a view to settling them within the capacity of his government.

“ The government will look into outstanding payments inherited by my administration, including contracts executed by deceased contractors, and effect payment within our capacity.

“ We shall also continue to assist contractors to execute quality projects in line with specifications,” he said.

The governor reiterated his commitment to sustain the ongoing empowerment programme of his administration as part of the dividends of democracy.
