The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Anele, has charged Army spokespersons to confront misinformation and propaganda with professionalism, clarity and integrity.

Anele gave the charge in Abuja at the closing of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) Combined Third and Fourth Quarters Media Training Seminar 2025, on Thursday in Abuja.

She described information management as a strategic weapon in modern warfare, saying the seminar focused on strengthening collaboration between the military and the media.

According to her, the seminar provided a platform to sharpen the skills of army public relations officers in strategic communication, crisis response, and conflict-sensitive reporting, all aimed at countering false narratives and promoting public trust in the armed forces.

“In today’s complex security environment, battles are not won by firepower alone but by mastery of information. Propaganda and disinformation are now dangerous weapons in the hands of terrorists and saboteurs.

“Our task is to ensure these falsehoods do not erode public trust or undermine the sacrifices of our troops,” she said.

Anele emphasised that Army public relations officers must remain at the forefront of shaping accurate narratives that reflect the courage and professionalism of Nigerian soldiers.

She noted that the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff, remains resolute in defending the nation’s sovereignty, but requires strong media partnership to consolidate operational gains.

“The media are not bystanders in this fight. They are strategic partners whose reports shape perception, strengthen resilience, and mobilise public support for our troops,” she added.

The acting director commended facilitators, participants, and sister security spokespersons for their commitment and contributions, noting that the seminar had deepened mutual trust and set a new standard for military–media engagement.

She urged participants to apply the lessons learnt to counter fake news, enhance transparency, and project the Army’s commitment to peace and professionalism.

“Be ambassadors of truth, defenders of ethics, and partners in building a safer and stronger Nigeria,” she said.
