The Lagos State Examinations Board has unveiled plans to conduct the 2025 Trade Test for artisans and technicians across the state.

The trade test is aimed at assessing the technical competence and professional excellence of artisans and technicians in the state.

This is contained in a statement by Mrs Onadipe Opebere, Public Affairs Officer of the board, on Thursday in Lagos.

Opebere explained that the initiative sort to promote craftsmanship, create employment opportunities, and drive socio-economic growth through formal certification of skilled workers.

According to her, the exercise will be supervised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

She quoted the Director and Registrar of the Board, Mr Orunsolu Adebayo, as saying that the test would feature both theory and practical components to measure participants’ proficiency across multiple skill levels.

According to Adebayo, the theory paper will hold on Oct. 18, while the practical test follows on Oct. 21, at selected centres across Lagos.

“Approved centres include Government Technical Colleges, Ikotun and Epe; Skill Acquisition Centre, Egbeda; and the Lagos State Examinations Board headquarters.”

He listed participating trades to include tailoring, electrical installation, carpentry, hairdressing, catering, barbing, shoe making, and other skill-based vocations relevant to the state’s labour needs.

“The Trade Test remains a vital instrument for promoting technical excellence, formal certification, and productivity,” he added.

He further said that the exercise would empower artisans for better economic inclusion.

Adebayo also said that the test would be conducted in Grades III, II, and I, designed for beginners, intermediate, and advanced technicians.

He urged eligible artisans to seize the opportunity, prepare adequately, and gain recognition for their skills through the state’s examination platform.

“The Lagos State Government is firmly committed to advancing vocational and technical education as a pillar of sustainable development and youth empowerment,” he further said.
