TUC hails Sani’s N72,000 minimum wage for LG workers
The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kaduna State Council, has commended Uba Sani for approving ₦72,000 minimum wage for local government workers.
Abdullahi Danfulani, the Chairman of TUC and Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Kaduna State Council, made the commendation at a news briefing in Kaduna on Friday.
Danfulani said the gesture was long due and described it as a significant step towards bridging the wage disparity between state and local government workers.
“We at the state level have been enjoying ₦72,000 minimum wage, while our counterparts in the local governments were stuck at ₦30,000.
“They have written several letters and even embarked on strikes, yet the issue remained unresolved until His Excellency graciously approved the new wage yesterday (Thursday),” he said.
The TUC boss expressed appreciation to the governor for his “listening ear”, and urged members of the union to exercise patience with the ongoing verification in the state.
He said that the verification was necessary to ensure transparency and fairness in the implementation of the consequential adjustments for all categories of workers.
“We believe that when the verification is completed, the governor will extend the benefit of consequential adjustment to all workers across the state.
“The governor is the father of all workers, not just those at the state level,” Danfulani said.
He called on workers to continue to support the government’s programmes and remain calm while the labour leadership continues to advocate for their rights and welfare.
“We are still in the struggle for better working conditions for every worker in the state whether at the state, local government, or primary school level.
“We urge all members to be patient and cooperative,” Danfulani said.
He emphasised the importance of solidarity among all the categories of workers, citing the labour movement’s principle that “injury to one is injury to all”.
