Nigerian Army intensifies efforts to build combat-ready warriors–COAS

The Chief of Army Staff(COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has emphasised the importance of building combat-ready warriors in the Nigerian Army for operational effectiveness .

Shaibu stated this while declaring open a seminar on intensifying warrior ethos, post-traumatic stress disorder management and drug/substance abuse held at the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State on Wednesday .

He identified warrior ethos as fundamental pillars of operational effectiveness.

The COAS said the Nigerian Army, would continue to be in the forefront in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in defence of Nigeria.

The COAS was represented by Maj.-Gen. Ademola Adedoja, the Commandant, Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre (MLAILPKC).

Our correspondent report that the theme of the seminar was ‘From Trauma To Triumph: Building Combat Ready Warriors In The NA’.

NAN also reports that the seminar, organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, aimed to strengthen the fighting spirit and overall resilience of Nigerian Army personnel.

Shaibu commended the initiative, stating that it would enhance operational effectiveness and maintain strategic advantage in the face of complex security challenges.

He emphasised the centrality of mental resilience, courage, and unyielding commitment to prevail in all missions.

Shaibu that by integrating lessons from the field with intellectual reflection and doctrinal innovation, the Army can refine its strategies required to secure Nigeria’s enduring stability.

He stressed that the increasingly complex and evolving nature of contemporary threat landscape demands a more adaptive and holistic approach to the conduct of its operations.

Shaibu explained that the seminar highlighted the strategic significance of the warrior ethos as a fundamental pillar of operational effectiveness.

He equally identified the inclusion of discussions on post-traumatic stress disorder and drug abuse, which pose serious challenges to combat readiness and troops welfare.

The COAS urged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to deepen their professional competence and enhance operational effectiveness.

Shaibu expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support and strategic guidance to the Nigerian Army.

Earlier in his address, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation Army, Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Abai, said the seminar was organised to enhance the leadership capacity of junior and middle cadre officers, as well as instill the warrior ethos among troops.

Abai was represented by the Director, Lessons Learned, Department of Transformation and Innovation Army Maj.- Gen. Mohammed Danja.

He said the seminar aimed to create awareness and measures to combat post-traumatic stress disorder and to eliminate the recourse to drugs by troops.

Danja expressed gratitude to the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry for hosting the seminar.

Our correspondent reports that the seminar featured lectures which included , Intensifying Warriors Ethos and Mental Toughness , Effect of Drug /Substances Abuses of Nigerian Army Operational Effectiveness, Overcoming Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in the Nigerian Army and interactive sessions.
