The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says that at least three international flights land and take-off at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, each week.

Mr Alexander Obi, an official in the Public Affairs Department of FAAN in Enugu, disclosed this to our correspondent on Thursday in Enugu.

The FAAN official was reacting to an online publication alleging the suspension of international flights from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu for some weeks now.

The online publication also alleged that the suspension of international flight was one of the marginalisation of the people of the South-East in the socioeconomic architecture of the country.

Obi said that Ethiopian Airlines had kept faith with its weekly flights schedule of landing with international passengers and taking off with international passengers on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week.

He said, “That online report is a falsehood and the imagination of the writer.

“The international flights in this airport have been constant and steady for years now.

“Ethiopian Airlines international flights land here between 10a.m. and 10:30a.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You will definitely see Ethiopian Airlines.

“The same Ethiopian Airlines take off with international passengers from this airport after an hour or so at about 12 noon on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays,” he said.

Our correspondent, who visited the airport on on-the-spot assessment, observed that the airport was bubbling with activities as travelers throng the arrival and the departure lounges.

Tour and travel agents were busy making their flight bookings.

Airlines operating within local routes in the airport including Air Peace, United Nigeria Airline, Ibom Air and the latest Enugu Air were on ground attending to their customers and flight inquiries from members of the public.
