The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has pledged to strengthen community policing, improve service delivery and enhance security operations across the state.

He made the commitment during an interactive session with stakeholders at a working visit to the Area E Command Headquarters in Festac, Lagos, on Friday.

Jimoh emphasised the crucial role of youths in supporting security operations, noting that their involvement and cooperation contribute significantly to maintaining order in commercial hubs.

He explained that prior engagements had helped shape the command’s strategies for improving public interaction and crime prevention.

The police boss acknowledged the challenge of patrol vehicles, stating that although the Command’s fleet was currently inadequate, new allocations were expected soon.

He praised local government chairmen, especially those of Bariga and Mushin, for donating vehicles to police formations and urged other councils to follow suit.

The commissioner also disclosed ongoing plans to upgrade the command’s mechanical workshop into a modern facility capable of maintaining police vehicles more efficiently.

He condemned incidents where officers fail to take statements or prematurely dismiss complaints, noting that such behaviour undermines public trust.

The CP encouraged residents to write their own petitions when reporting issues, emphasising that the law does not require a lawyer for most complaints.

The commissioner expressed confidence in the command’s direction despite current challenges in logistics, manpower and public expectations.

“We will continue to improve the accessibility and fairness of police services, my doors are open and anywhere I am called to provide support, I will respond,” he said.

He called for deeper collaboration between the police and the public, stressing that sustaining peace and security in Lagos requires collective effort from all stakeholders.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Mr Lanre Sanusi assured residents of the local government’s commitment to safety and security, praising the police for their proactive efforts.

Sanusi, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Moses Olanrewaju, commended the efforts of CP Jimoh noting that he had been working diligently to address recent security concerns.

“The CP is consciously making sure there will be no gaps in security, we are confident that his continued support will ensure the safety of our residents,” the chairman said.

In his welcome address, ACP Eburuaja Nwachukwu, Area Commander of Area ‘E’ Command, noted that the seven divisions under the Area E Command remain professionally policed.

“Despite heavy commercial activity and security challenges along the ECOWAS corridor, officers focus on visibility policing and traffic management, with the Command committed to securing the gateway,” he said

Nwachukwu also announced the death of CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, the hardworking DPO of Festac Division, who passed away on Oct. 24, describing her as an exceptional officer.

The commander raised concerns over shortages of patrol vehicles, manpower, and riot-control equipment.

He expressed hope that the CP’s visit would bring solutions, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to securing the ECOWAS gateway.
