Lagos reaffirms commitment to stronger HIV response
Lagos State Government has reaffirmed commitment to strengthening HIV prevention, testing and treatment.
Dr Folakemi Animashaun, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, gave the assurance on Thursday in Lagos at a news conference.
The conference was to announce the state’s preparedness to commemmorste the 2025 World AIDS Day.
Our correspondent reports that World AIDS Day is marked globally every Dec. 1.
It provides an opportunity to assess progress in the fight against HIV, promotes access to treatment and reinforces public awareness.
Animashaun said that the 2025 AIDS Day would have the theme: “Overcoming Disruptions: Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response”.
She said that the theme reflected the need for resilience amid global and local challenges.
She applauded Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for steady and impactful leadership in the health sector.
“Mr governor’s support has helped us to strengthen the systems and community structures that keep our HIV response alive and effective,” she said.
Animashaun said that Lagos State recorded significant progress in 2025 in HIV response.
According to her, the strength of any health response lies not only in hospitals but also in the continuity of community engagement.
“Peer educators, support groups, youth advocates, faith organisations and civil society groups remain the backbone of Lagos State’s HIV response,” she said.
She commended community partners for ensuring that patients were connected to care.
