FG realigns public service to emerging global trends – BPSR
Mr Dasuki Arabi, Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), has restated commitment to reform and re-align the public service to emerging global trends for effective service delivery.>
He said this in an interview with our correspondent, on the sidelines of a five-day workshop for public servants, on Tuesday in Gombe.
The theme of the exercise is: “Strengthening Public Sector Performance through Reforms in Nigeria.”
He said the Federal Government was deepening reforms and enhancing capacity building as a tool to realign public service to emerging trends, and transform government operations for quality services.
Arabi said the exercise was for public service to be more digital, citizen centric, transparent and adaptive to global challenges, with key strategies focusing on technology adoption and agile governance models.
He said that several reforms had been carried out adopting e-governance and digital tools to strengthen accountability and transparency as well as enhance service delivery using modern innovation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The BPSR helmsman stressed that public servants must learn AI tools, adding that, “technology now drives effective public service.”
He highlighted that the maiden training of the officials and series of trainings carried out in the past were in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda aims at improving the value of lives of ordinary Nigerians.
According to Arabi, COVID-19 pandemic accelerates the shift from analogue to digital systems, making AI adoption essential.
“BPSR want participants to deliver services using AI as approved by the e-governance master plan,” he said.
Arabi said that government policies now emphasise AI, blockchain and the internet of things within public service.
He said technology was reshaping discussions, adding, “that’s why we are changing from paper to paperless.”
The DG challenged reform directors to prepare for the future challenges and shift in leadership structures.
“Researchers say this may be the last batch of leaders managing people alone,” adding that future management would involve people and machines, eventually becoming machine focused.
Arabi lauded President Tinubu for his support towards building a more efficient, functional, customer focused and results oriented public service via AI technology.
Our correspondent reports that about 110 participants drwan from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are attending the exercise.
