Musa’s appointment reaffirms Tinubu’s commitment to tackling security threats — APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the appointment of Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd) as Defence Minister clearly signals President Bola Tinubu’s firm commitment to confronting Nigeria’s security threats.
The Lagos APC spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, said this in a statement on Friday, while congratulating the new minister.
Oladejo said Musa’s emergence represented “a decisive step by the Commander-in-Chief to end insecurity and restore national confidence.”
According to him, the Defence Minister assumes “a weighty responsibility anchored on the trust of the President and the expectations of a nation yearning for definitive victory over insecurity.”
He said Musa’s appointment was not a routine administrative decision, but a strategic move to reinforce Nigeria’s security architecture.”
“His emergence symbolises a renewed resolve to confront the threats that have tested our collective resilience for years,” he said.
Oladejo noted that the former Chief of Defence Staff brought deep operational experience and a track record forged in complex security theatres.
“Gen. Musa is a name Nigerians know. They know his service, and they know what they expect of him,” he said.
The APC spokesman said the national demands before the minister were enormous and required extraordinary courage and clarity.
“Alongside this popular mandate come humongous national expectations—expectations that must be met with total dedication and uncompromising commitment,” he added.
Oladejo said Musa’s early remarks reflected readiness for the assignment, describing his tone as measured, firm and reassuring.
He said the APC welcomed the minister’s call for unity, noting that no defence minister could succeed without broad cooperation across security agencies, communities and institutions.
“We all have a role to play. National security is a collective responsibility,” Oladejo said.
He explained that Nigeria had entered a new phase where threats had mutated into hybrid warfare involving terrorism, banditry, sabotage and political opportunism.
“This appointment shows that President Tinubu is not hesitating. He is confronting insecurity with clear resolve,” he said.
Oladejo said the APC expected Musa to strengthen intelligence coordination, modernise the armed forces and restore public confidence.
He added that a coordinated national offensive against criminal networks remained critical to national stability.
“Saboteurs, terror financiers and compromised elements must be decisively checked. Nigerians deserve stronger protection,” he said.
Oladejo reaffirmed the party’s support for the minister, noting that he now carries both the President’s trust and the hopes of millions of Nigerians.
It was reported Musa was sworn in on Thursday at the Presidential Villa.
