BUA cement disburses N40m to 200 students as scholarship support
BUA Cement company, Kalambaina-Sokoto, on Tuesday disbursed N40 million as bursary to 200 students studying in various higher institutions selected from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
BUA Managing Director, Mr Yusuf Binji, said the initiative was to support them as part of company’s corporate social responsibilities to make them productive in the society.
Binji, who was represented by the Plant Director, Mr Aminu Bashar, said that the beneficiaries underwent screening to ensure transparency in the exercise.
He said 50 benefiting students were from the host communities in Wamakko Local Government Area while others were from three catchment areas of the neighboring states, adding each benefiting student would get N200,000.
He described the initiative as an opportunity to support indigenous students especially the less-privileged persons and urged the benefiting students to utilise the funds judiciously in their studies.
The managing director expressed optimism that the gesture would be continued and expanded to other services for the host communities to benefit with the company’s presence within their domain.
Alhaji Aliyu Gumel, the Director, Health, Community, Safety and Environment (HCSE) Department, said the initiative was to give back to the communities and for the people to feel the impact of the company’s presence.
Gumel said adequate arrangements were made in partnership with States’ Scholarship Boards to choose the most legible beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of the benefiting communities, Ubandoman Arkilla, Alhaji Aliyu Shehu, described support as a life-transforming initiative, praising the impact of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts on its host communities.
The chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Dundaye, thanked the company for the invaluable gesture and urged others to emulate BUA on community support which enhanced people’s wellbeing.
Dundaye said similar gesture were extended on healthcare, education infrastructure, water supply and electricity, empowerment programmes and others, which had impacted to citizens lives.
