The caretaker Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun, Victor Akande, says 150 delegates will participate in the party’s primary to elect Gov. Ademola Adeleke as its candidate for the Aug. 8, 2026 Osun governorship election in the state.

Akande, who spoke with our correspondent at the venue of the primary on Wednesday in Osogbo, said that Gov. Ademola Adeleke is the sole governorship aspirant of the party.

Our correspondent reports that Adeleke, on Tuesday night, announced his defection to the Accord Party.

Adeleke said that he had joined the Accord Party more than a month ago to seek re‑election.

The governor resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Dec. 2.

Akande, however, said that five party delegates are expected from each of the 30 local government areas of the state to participate in the primary.

Our correspondent also reports that delegates have started arriving at the venue of the primary, with heavily armed personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police present.
