Yuletide: Poultry farmers assure adequate supply of chicken and eggs

The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos State Chapter on Friday assured residents of adequate supply of chicken and eggs, among others at reduced prices during the Yuletide.

Mr Mojeed Iyiola, the Chairman, Lagos State, PAN, gave the assurance while speaking with the our correspondent in Lagos.

He said the availability and the drop in prices are as a result of the intervention of the state government in the sector.

Our correspondent reports that the Lagos State Government through its ‘Ounje Eko’ Farmers Subsidy Programme has discounted poultry feeds for the farmers, ahead of the Christmas celebration.

“This motivated us to ensure enough chicken and eggs are available.

“There will be more than enough products to sell at, even, lesser prices than that of last year.

“PAN got 25 per cent discount on feeds from the government and it must reflect on the prices,” Iyiola said.

He stressed that the subsidy had motivated the farmers to increase their stock of layer birds, among others.

“In 2024, old layer birds were sold between N16,000 to N20,000 per bird.

“Farmers will be selling between N8,000 to N10,000 per bird this Yuletide, depending on the size.

“We are simply reciprocating the action of the government by selling at appropriate prices this season,

“Even the price of eggs has dropped. The price ranges between N5100 to N5300 maximum at the farm gate now, depending on the size,” the chairman said.
