NNPP remains strong force in Nigeria’s democratic space — Chairman
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) says it remains a steadfast force that cannot be harassed or intimidated in Nigeria’s democratic and political space.
The party’s National Chairman, Dr Ahmed Ajuji, made this statement during his remarks at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Friday.
He said that every attempt by both external and internal forces to factionalise the party and its national officials, in order to weaken the NNPP, had failed.
“We are not pocketed and dictated to as some other parties are. We are NNPP. We are united and focused.
“We assure all our members and leaders that by the grace of God, we will continue to be the binding force along with our happily growing members, all across the country, that will drive us to victory in 2027,” he said.
Ajuji, who said that the NEC meeting would be the last for the current National Working Committee (NWC) members under his leadership, expressed satisfaction that his leadership did not fail the party.
“I hope that majority of us will have the opportunity to continue to serve the interests of the party as well as the interests of the nation at large,” he added.
He commended the leadership and guidance of the party’s National Leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as the support of the Kano State Governor, other party leaders, and members for his led National Working Committee (NWC).
He urged party leaders and members to disregard the antics of renegade members who now call themselves defectors.
“If a man or some men decided to jump from calm waters only to land in not just frying pan, we wish them safe journey,” he said.
In his remarks, Kwankwaso, congratulated the outgoing executive of the party, especially on the successful conduct of the party congresses across wards, local governments and states .
Kwankwaso, advising leaders and members of NNPP to continue to support the party, said that NNPP remained one of the greatest parties in Nigeria.
“We may not be the biggest party in terms of number, but we are the most united and coordinated party. It is not the numbers that matters, but the level of coordination and our unity,” Kwankwaso said.
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, represented by his Deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, said that in spite of the challenges confronting opposition parties in Nigeria, NNPP was waxing stronger and consolidating on its achievements.
“From what we have been hearing, seeing and the ways we have been conducting ourselves, there is no political party that can compete with us,” Yusuf said.
The NNPP National Secretary, Dipo Johnson, commended the judiciary and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for upholding the rule of law in matters affecting the party.
Johnson said that in spite of the challenges, NNPP under the current leadership had successfully conducted congresses at the ward and state levels across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The immediate assignment before the party is the upcoming FCT Council polls scheduled for February 2026. we are up to date in the INEC time table,” Johnson said.
The NNPP BOT Secretary, Buba Galadinma, said there was no faction within the NNPP, noting that no genuine party leader was absent from the NEC meeting.
He added that suspended NNPP members who had been opposing the party were merely trying to weaken it but had failed.
Galadinma also noted that the suspended members never appealed any of the court judgments that confirmed their suspension from the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that resolutions at the committee meeting included the ratification of NNPP elections for ward, local government, and state executive committees across the 36 states and the FCT.
The meeting also ratified elections of zonal executives in the six geopolitical zones and confirmed that the national convention would be held on Dec. 20.
Additionally, the meeting ratified the suspension of Article 37(1) of the NNPP Constitution 2024, as amended.
