Man, 47, arraigned for allegedly assaulting girlfriend
A 47-year old man Samson Duru, on Monday, stood before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan to answer charges bordering on alleged assault brought against him by the police.
The defendant, who resides at the Felele Rab area of Ibadan, was charged on one-count of assault.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr Akeem Akinloye alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 22, at about 7.00 p.m.
He alleged that following a misunderstanding, the defendant unlawfully assaulted his girlfriend, one Mary Slyvernus by dragging her on the flour.
Akinloye alleged that the defendant punched his girlfriend on the face and left hand, adding that this caused her harm.
He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 355 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.
She held that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
The court adjourned the case until March 2, 2026, for hearing.
