Bago felicitates survivor of Essa tanker explosion on birth of baby boy
Gov. Mohammed Umaru-Bago of Niger has congratulated Saratu Mohammed, a survivor of the Essa petrol tanker explosion, on the safe delivery of a baby boy.
The governor, in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the birth as a joyful reminder of Allah’s mercy and wonders beyond human comprehension.
“The case of Mohammed is a testament to Allah’s awesomeness and greatness, and a reminder that He can make all things possible.
“This child is no doubt a child of destiny and will always remind the parents and everyone of Allah’s mercy and faithfulness,” he said.
While felicitating with her and her family, Bago enjoined them to nurture the child in the fear of Allah so that he would fulfil his purpose on earth.
He prayed that Allah would strengthen Mohammed as she continued to recuperate from the injuries she sustained during the explosion, as well as the pains of childbirth.
The governor also reaffirmed the state government’s continued support to her and other survivors of the incident who were still receiving medical treatment.
Our correspondent reports that the petrol tanker explosion occurred on Oct. 21, 2025, in Essa village, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger, killing no fewer than 57 persons and injuring over 47 others after a tanker overturned and spilled its contents.
It was further reported that Mohammed was among the victims transferred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for intensive medical care.
She was delivered of a baby boy at the UATH on Jan. 1, 2026, beginning the year on a joyful note.
