The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday charged troops in Niger State to sustain the onslaught against terrorists and other criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.

Shaibu gave the charge during an operational visit to the 18 Brigade at Latini Barracks, Bida.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He commended the officers and soldiers for their professionalism, resilience and sacrifices in ensuring relative peace within their Area of Responsibility, urging them not to relent in efforts to degrade and neutralise bandits and terrorists.

The COAS assured the troops that the Nigerian Army under his leadership remained committed to improving their welfare and that of their families, describing personnel welfare as a key enabler of sustained operational effectiveness.

According to him, the Army Headquarters is giving deliberate and continuous attention to welfare-related issues in order to boost morale and enhance mission accomplishment across formations.

Shaibu also disclosed plans to construct additional accommodation facilities and establish skills acquisition centres to improve the well-being and economic empowerment of troops’ families.

He reaffirmed the resolve of the Nigerian Army to provide the necessary support to enable troops to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
