LASU VC urges JUPEB students to uphold discipline, integrity
The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has urged students at Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) to embrace discipline, hard work and integrity for academic success.
She spoke on Monday during the orientation for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) students at the LASUSBAS campus in Badagry, Lagos.
According to her, LASU does not tolerate academic misconduct or indiscipline, but promotes excellence, character, innovation and responsible citizenship.
“Your success depends not only on intellect, but on commitment, self-management and adherence to our institutional values,” she told the students.
She described the programme as both a privilege and responsibility, urging students to remain focused, curious and determined throughout their studies.
“With dedication and God’s grace, you will successfully complete this programme,” the vice-chancellor said.
She explained the orientation was designed to familiarise students with academic expectations, ethical standards, rules and regulations of LASU and the JUPEB programme.
“The knowledge gained here will guide your conduct during your one-year stay. You are at a critical crossroads in your academic journey,” she added.
According to Olatunji-Bello, the JUPEB programme tests readiness, sharpens discipline and builds capacity for university-level academic work.
She warned that progression to 200 Level or full admission was not automatic, but strictly based on performance, conduct and compliance.
“Only students who demonstrate commitment, consistency and excellence will earn that transition,” she said.
Also speaking, LASUSBAS Director, Prof Yunus Dauda, said the orientation showcased achievements and reaffirmed commitment to teaching, research and community service.
Dauda said it also prepared students for JUPEB examinations scheduled for July/August 2026, urging them to remain focused and disciplined.
He commended the vice-chancellor for providing support, resources and an enabling environment for LASUSBAS to achieve its objectives.
Dauda added that the VC strengthened ICT infrastructure to enhance learning, research, registration, examinations and promotion systems.
Badagry Local Government Chairman, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, urged students to settle down and face their studies with seriousness.
Hunpe commended Olatunji-Bello’s leadership, encouraging her to sustain the progress recorded at the institution.
Our correspondent reports that senior staff, students, traditional rulers and Badagry residents attended the programme.
