Ex-MAN Chairman advises FG against banning alcoholic beverage in sachet
Dr Wale Adegbite, the Former Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN),Ogun Chapter, has appealed to the Federal Government to reverse the ban on production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets.
Our correspondent reports that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had banned the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets and small polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles (under 200ml) as of January 2026.
Reacting to the ban of alcoholic beverage in sachets, Adegbite told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun, that the multiplying effect of downsizing, unemployment and increased crime rate would take its toll on the country.
The former MAN chairman said that rather than outright ban, the federal government should direct manufacturers to seek alternative packaging that would be environment friendly.
“What the manufacturers only need is to look for alternative way to package the product to prevent indiscriminate dumping of the sachet in our environment.”he said.
Adegbite condemned the indiscriminate littering of drainages, streets and roadsides with alcohol sachets by their consumers and urged the federal government to impose sanctions on people found culpable.
