Rector, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr Ibraheem Abdul, says the institution has introduced structured initiatives to strengthen staff development and institutional capacity.

Abdul told our correspondent on Wednesday that the initiatives include digital learning platforms, continuous professional development workshops, mentorship programmes and capacity-building schemes.

He said the programmes were designed to align new employees with the college’s culture, ethics, ICT standards, quality assurance processes and role-specific competencies.

“The programmes are designed to ensure that our staff are fully aligned with YABATECH’s vision of innovation, excellence and lifelong learning,” Abdul said.

The rector said the initiatives are being implemented through the Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), established to drive structured human capacity development in the institution.

Abdul explained that the Centre for Open, Distance and Flexible e-Learning (CODFeL) would provide digital and flexible learning platforms for continuous staff upskilling.

“Through these platforms, staff will have access to online certificate and diploma programmes to promote adaptability in a rapidly evolving academic and technological environment,” he said.

He added that regular professional development workshops would focus on digital pedagogy, instructional design and innovative, student-centred teaching methods.

“We will also leverage Yaba’s technology ecosystem to connect our staff with industry mentors and innovation hubs to foster collaboration and professional growth,” Abdul said.

He noted that.aà TETFund-supported programmes would be deployed to enhance staff qualifications, research capacity and access to advanced degrees and certifications.

The rector said a formal meeting was held on Jan. 5, during which management formally welcomed new staff and outlined expectations, conduct and institutional standards.

He added that in spite of possible challenges, such as digital adoption and funding constraints, the college remains committed to preparing staff to support its transition and innovation-driven mandate
