‘Unstoppable’ Palmer hits hat-trick as Chelsea cruise past Wolves

Cole Palmer delivered a devastating first-half hat-trick to inspire Chelsea to a 3–1 Premier League victory at Wolves, prompting head coach Liam Rosenior to describe the forward as “unstoppable”.

Palmer was ice-cool from the penalty spot, converting twice before completing his treble with a clinical finish drilled into the roof of the net before half-time. The England international marked the moment by covering his ears in celebration, a gesture aimed at recent reports suggesting he is unsettled at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior was full of praise for Palmer’s performance, highlighting both his cutting edge and his influence on Chelsea’s attacking play.

“I don’t want him to change, that’s for sure,” Rosenior said. “Some of our passages of play were everything I wanted to see and he was a big part of that. We know what a world-class player he is. When he’s at his best, he’s unstoppable, and I’m delighted to be working with him.”

The hat-trick took Palmer beyond 50 goals for the club since his move from Manchester City in 2023 and could not have come at a better time for Rosenior, who has faced persistent questions over the forward’s form, fitness and mindset since taking charge in January.

Palmer’s minutes have been carefully managed since his return from a groin injury in November, and he is yet to enjoy a prolonged run of starts under the new manager.

“When he’s fully firing and feeling good, he’s a magnificent footballer,” Rosenior added. “At a club like this, with the scrutiny and demands that come with it, you have to block out the noise and remember how good you are. He loves being here and hopefully now he can really enjoy his football for the rest of the season.”

Palmer, whose campaign has been disrupted by injury, credited Rosenior with helping him find his rhythm again. The 23-year-old also made history by becoming the first player in the Premier League era to score three first-half hat-tricks in his career.

“Not being 100 per cent fit isn’t ideal, but I still feel I can help the team,” Palmer said. “When I’m fully fit, I know I can go to another level. Life under Liam is amazing, he gives us confidence, lets us be ourselves and play free.

“When I’m back properly fit, you’ll see the best of me. The staff give us confidence every day and I’m really enjoying it.”
