NYSC charges corps members on safety, morality as orientation ends

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has charged corps members to be safety conscious and uphold the highest standards of moral conduct at all times.

The Coordinator of NYSC in Lagos State, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, gave the charge on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Orientation Course, at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State.

“Always remember that your safety is paramount, as unauthorised journeys still remain prohibited.

“In moments of difficulty, seek immediate refuge at the nearest military or police formation,” she said.

She said that the three-week orientation course equipped the corps members through regimented training, leadership development and skills acquisition programmes.

“I am confident they will uphold NYSC ideals while discharging their duties with excellence, loyalty and sense of responsibility, contributing meaningfully to national development across communities and organisations,” she said.

The state coordinator commended Lagos residents for hospitality, and appealed for continuous support for corps members in terms of accommodation to enable them to have a smooth and memorable national service.

“We appreciate Lagos State Government, the people of Lagos State, partners and the media for sustained support, hospitality and collaboration which ensured a safe, peaceful and successful orientation course,” she said.

Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, praised Salmwang and her team for the successful completion of the orientation course.

Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the training and exposure gained during the orientation programme would guide the corps members throughout their mandatory national service and strengthen their contributions.

The governor appealed to organisations to willingly accept corps members posted to their establishments and give them adequate welfare and a conducive working environment.

“I encourage organisations to accept and support these corps members wholeheartedly, as their contributions to such establishments will prove invaluable in the long run,” he said.

The governor charged the corps members to positively impact their host communities by leaving enduring legacies in healthcare delivery, education, social services and other sectors where their skills and knowledge might be required.
