Uzodimma welcomes Niger Delta Games Torch of Unity

Hope Uzodimma of Imo, on Thursday, received the Torch of Unity for the second edition of the Niger Delta Games.<

Our correspondent reports that the games scheduled to hold in Edo, will begin on Feb. 22, with athletes participating from nine states of the Niger Delta.

Uzodinma who was represented by the Chief of Staff to the Imo government, Mr Nnamdi Anyaehie, received the torch amidst cheers from Imo athletes.

He commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the initiative which he said would unite contingents across participating states and support the physical health of young people.

He also charged Imo athletes to “go for gold” and make the state proud.

“I commend the NDDC for this initiative as a way of fostering unity between our people and making our young men and women healthy.

“I urge other agencies to emulate the NDDC so that Nigeria will continue to be one,” he said.

Speaking, the Imo Commissioner for Sports, Mr Evaristus Onyeocha, said that the torch which was lit in Cross River on Feb. 9, moved to Akwa Ibom and then to Abia before arriving Imo.

He added that the torch will proceed to Rivers.
