FCT Polls: Maikalangu attributes victory to citizens’ confidence in APC

The Chairman-elect, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Christopher Maikalangu, has attributed his re-election in the 2026 FCT polls to growing trust in the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Speaking at a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Maikalangu said that delivered projects in his first-term laid a foundation for the victory.

He said that the unity within the APC and strong grassroots mobilisation contributed significantly to the high voter turnout recorded in the elections.

Maikalangu who donated a borehole to the council, reaffirmed his commitment to collaborative development and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, including the media.

“Politics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres as some persons assume.

“The borehole underscores commitment to collaborative development and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, including the media,” he said.

In her remarks, the Chairman NUJ-FCT council, Ms Grace Ike, said that visit was to felicitate Maikalangu following his victory in Saturday’s elections.

Represented by the Vice Chairman of Council, Mr Yahaya Ndambabo, Ike expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the borehole donated to the council.

She described the gesture of the chairman-elect’s as a reflection of his commitment to grassroots development and media collaboration.

Ike who congratulated Maikalangu on his re-election said that it was as a result of the confidence reposed in him by residents of AMAC.

She reaffirmed the NUJ FCT Council’s commitment to providing news coverage across AMAC and the five other area councils in the FCT.

Ike urged the chairman-elect to consolidate on his achievements in his second term for the benefit of the people.
