2027: Oyebanji, Fayose woo Ekiti voters for Tinubu

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has urged residents to mobilise massive support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Oyebanji made the call on Monday at a rally in Ikere-Ekiti, where a former House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Henrich Akomolafe, defected to the All Progressives Congress alongside hundreds of supporters.

The governor said Tinubu’s second term would consolidate ongoing economic reforms and further boost development in Ekiti and the country, adding that the state had benefited from federal support under the present administration.

He expressed confidence in securing victory in the forthcoming governorship election, citing his administration’s performance and acceptance among the people, and urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards to increase voter turnout.

Oyebanji called on the electorate to target no fewer than 600,000 votes for the President in the 2027 poll, noting that previous vote figures were no longer sufficient to demonstrate the state’s support.

Also speaking at the rally, former Governor Ayodele Fayose said he would support Oyebanji’s second-term bid and mobilise voters for Tinubu’s re-election, though he would remain in the PDP.

Fayose described Oyebanji as a unifying leader and commended his administration’s development efforts, adding that the governor’s performance had strengthened political support across party lines in the state.

He urged political actors to maintain peace during the electioneering and avoid violence, assuring new members of equal rights and privileges within the APC.

Akomolafe said his defection was motivated by ongoing development in the state, while party leaders commended his grassroots mobilisation and encouraged more opposition members to join the APC.
