TCN inaugurates 82 transformers in 23 months to improve power supply
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has installed 82 power transformers within the last 23 months across the country to improve power supply.
This is contained in a publication of achievements and challenges of the company within last past five years under the leadership of the Managing Director of TCN, Mr Sule Abdulaziz, made available to Journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
According to the publication, the company installed the transformers between January 2024 and November 2025.
It said that with the inauguration of the transformers, 8,500.5 Mega Volt Ampree (MVA) capacities were added to the national grid.
The publication also said that TCN’s 15, 300 MVA power transformers were installed in the network of Akangbe, Lekki, Alagbon, Ikeja West, Osogbo, Ganmo, Jos, Gombe, Kumbotso, Asaba, Oke-Aro, Benin,Alaoji and Katampe within the last half of 2025.
According to the publication plans are ongoing to install more 300 MVA transformers in the grid to further boost transmission system capacity.”
The company said that through its strategic plan code-named Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme (NEGMERP), it had executed several capital and reinforcement projects across transmission lines in the country.
”These projects have improved bulk power transmission to various distribution load centres nationwide, making it possible for Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to offt-ake more power for onward distribution to customers within their franchise areas.
”Consequently impacting positively on socio-economic activities within the states,” it said
The company assured of continued system reliability and capacity improvements through reinforcing existing transmission infrastructure to reduce transmission losses and improve the overall efficiency of the transmission network.
It said it would also upgrade the existing substations and transmission lines to increase their capacity and further improve reliability, rehabilitation and upgrading of transmission lines and substation projects across the country.
The TCN said it would actively gazette and register with the state governments all its substation lands and transmission lines Right of Way for existing ongoing and future projects.
