The Zamfara chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has warmly welcomed Gov Dauda Lawal’s defection with enthusiasm.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau on Tuesday by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Malam Yusuf Idris.

Our correspondent recalls that Gov Lawal on Monday in Gusau, through his Deputy, Malam Mani Mummuni, announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the rulling APC after a stakeholders’ consultation meeting.

According to the statement, the party happily welcomes Gov Lawal and his teeming supporters into its fold.

“The governor’s decision and resolve to join the ruling party is indeed a welcome initiative and a strong boost that will further solidify the bond of Zamfara people as a formidable, indivisible entity.

“On behalf of the party leaders and former governors of the state, including the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Sen. Ahmad Rufai-Sani, Mahmud Shinkafi, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, state party chairman, Tukur Danfulani, and all other critical stakeholders, we heartily welcome Gov Lawal to the party.

“The state APC executive members assure full support and cooperation of all APC members,” the statement said..

It further noted that the party recognised Gov Lawal and all his supporters as full-fledged members who would continue to enjoy all the privileges accorded party members from now henceforth.

“It is our prayer and belief that this development will uplift the unity of members of the party and boost the chances of the party in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

“We call on party members at all levels to support this development in order to ensure the success of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The party remains confident that Zamfara will continue to benefit from the wise decisions that will bring unity of purpose towards more economic viability,” the statement added.
