E- registration: INEC’s delay affecting NNPP membership drive – Aniebonam
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says delay by INEC in uploading the party’s current leadership to the commission’s website is affecting its registration/membership drive nationwide.
This is contained in a statement by the NNPP Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Dr Boniface Aniebonam on Thursday in Lagos.
Recall that INEC had directed all political parties to ensure electronics registrations of its members nationwide to enable it participate in the 2027 general elections.
Aniebonam stated that the membership drive and e-registration had been slow due to the continued face-off with the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso led group.
“INEC is yet to obey the court order, directing it to recognize the Agbo Major led National Working Committee of the NNPP.
“The delay led to NNPP not fielding candidates in some elections in the past which is regrettable and embarrassing.
“Most of our members, especially those with ambition to run for political offices are becoming sceptical about NNPP’s ability to be part of the 2027 general elections.
“We had hoped for swift resolution of the internal crisis, with the coming of a new INEC chairman but it is still delayed.”
He said that the NNPP portal is already open and that the registration had begun for members and intending members nationwide, and urged stakeholders of the party to be patient.
“We are optimistic that INEC will do the needful without further delay and it’s our hope that members who left the party in the wake of defections shall return .
“The exit of Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State and few others due to escalating court cases can be understood but we are not giving up hope and we believe we will have a better outing in 2027.”
He reiterated that Kwankwaso, the NNPP 2023 presidential candidate and his followers, including Elder Buba Galadima remained expelled from the party to teach others lessons that anti -party activities have consequences.
