<strong>Akuh Purity, the National Coach of Team Nigeria Wrestling, says the team will continue to make the country proud in international competitions.

Akuh said this in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday in Abuja, noting that the wrestlers remained committed to giving their best and winning medals at global events.

Our correspondent reports that Team Nigeria won four gold medals at the 2026 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Championships in the United States.

The feat, according to the coach, underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in the sport on the international stage.

Akuh attributed the success to the support of the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Adewale Adeniyi, who is also the Comptroller-General of Customs.

He commended Adeniyi for his consistent support and investment in the development of wrestling in the country.

The coach said the performance of the four wrestlers highlighted the increasing impact of Nigerian athletes in collegiate wrestling in the United States.

He added that their victories earned them NAIA All-American recognition, while also bringing pride to their universities, Nigeria, and the federation.

“The achievements reflect the visionary leadership of the Federation President, Adewale Adeniyi, and his deliberate investment in talent discovery,” he said.

“he victory is a significant milestone for African representation in NAIA wrestling.

“The tournament is part of the federation’s preparations ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that the championship was held from March 11 to March 14 in the United States.
