Okpebholo inspects Sapele Road, promises relief for commuters
Monday Okpebholo of Edo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to easing hardship faced by commuters during an on-the-spot inspection of the ongoing Sapele Road project in Benin City.
In a statement by Chief Press Secretary Dr Patrick Ebojele on Friday in Benin, the governor expressed satisfaction with progress on key sections of the road.
He noted improved performance by contractors handling different portions of the project, describing the work as encouraging and in line with project expectations.
Okpebholo said significant progress had been made, particularly on sections handled by CBC Global, adding that motorists could now travel through parts linking Edo and Delta States more easily.
He said that work by CCECC was still at an early stage due to recent award but assured that major sections would be completed before the end of the year.
The governor said residents would soon experience relief as parts of the road were expected to be opened to traffic in the coming weeks to ease movement.
He attributed the ongoing infrastructure drive to support from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which was guiding major road rehabilitation projects nationwide.
Earlier, Special Adviser on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Phoebe Williams-Bello, said the inspection aimed to accelerate work and introduce temporary measures to ease commuter hardship.
She said palliative works, including stone base placement and traffic diversion, would begin next week to improve accessibility while concrete sections continued setting for durability and safety.
