Bassey Otu of Cross River has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening healthcare through sustained collaboration with medical professionals, aiming to improve service delivery and outcomes across the state overall public.

Otu gave the assurance while receiving the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Cross River chapter, during a courtesy visit in Calabar on Thursday, emphasising partnership and mutual respect going forward.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the recognition of his administration’s efforts, noting that such acknowledgment by key stakeholders motivated government to intensify targeted interventions within the health sector statewide more effectively.

He commended the association’s professionalism, stressing that integrity, transparency, and honesty remained critical pillars for effective healthcare delivery, and urged members to uphold ethical standards in their daily practice.

“I urge you to remain committed to your duties, as I assure you of continued government support in addressing challenges, while we further engage to comprehensively resolve concerns raised,” he said.

Otu added that health was critical to everyone and remained central to development, requiring collaboration among stakeholders, while reaffirming his administration’s openness to engagement and prioritisation of issues affecting the sector.

He assured the association of his goodwill, pledging support for initiatives that promoted Cross River’s interests in line with due process and sustainable reforms within the healthcare system across communities statewide.

Earlier, NMA Chairman in the state, Dr Epoke Ezoke, commended the administration’s strides, citing improvements in infrastructure, welfare, and policy direction, while hailing openness to dialogue and endorsing Prof. Ofem Enang’s presidential bid forthcoming.
