EKEDC attributes Festac power disruption to ongoing infrastructure repairs

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) says the ongoing intermittent electricity supply in Festac Town and adjoining areas is due to ongoing repairs at the Amuwo 132kV substation.

Mrs Nnenna Nwobodo, Acting Head of Corporate Communications, EKEDC, told our correspondent on Friday in Lagos that the project is being executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Our correspondent reports that Festac, a major residential and commercial hub in Lagos, has been experiencing inconsistent electricity supply, with business owners calling for improved service delivery to support economic activities.

Nwobodo explained that the intervention, aimed at strengthening power infrastructure and improving supply reliability in the affected communities, would enhance network capacity.

According to her, it will also address longstanding issues of unstable electricity supply.

“Upon completion, residents should experience more stable and efficient power supply,” she said.

She noted that due to the ongoing works, feeders linked to the substation are currently subjected to daily load shedding, resulting in the disruptions.

Nwobodo listed affected areas to include Festac Town, Kirikiri, Army Signal Barracks, Ojo Road, Ajeromi, Agboju, Satellite Town Phase 1, and neighbouring communities.

She added that EKEDC has engaged stakeholders through town hall meetings and regular updates to keep residents informed.

“The initiative underscores our commitment to transparency and sustained community engagement,” she said.

Nwobodo appealed for patience, assuring that the project would deliver improved service and long-term benefits to customers upon completion.
