ADC coalition formed to save Nigeria— Ashiru

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, Mr George Ashiru, has said that the party’s coalition was designed to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges and would ultimately prevail.

Ashiru said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, noting that the ADC remained committed to its founding vision of fostering national unity and purposeful development.

He recalled that the party’s founders, envisioned a movement ,about 20 years ago, anchored on unity, national rebirth and global relevance for Nigeria.

According to him, the vision, captured in the party’s ideals of “Arise and Shine,” reflects a belief that Nigeria must first rise before its citizens can prosper.

Ashiru said the ADC began pushing for a coalition of like-minded political actors in 2017 to reset Nigeria’s trajectory, adding that the effort materialised in 2025.

He described the coalition as a timely intervention in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“The coalition under ADC was designed to save Nigeria and not to pander to parochial interests.

“While we acknowledge that no merger or coalition is without its challenges, as a people, we are greater than our problems.

“While we acknowledge the presence of fifth columnists who come to divide and decimate our purpose, we also believe that the people of Nigeria can discern between a people passionate to help Nigerians and those simply interested in extracting our commonwealth for private benefits.

“To this vision, we remain committed, and in ADC Lagos, our resolve is even stronger. We thrive in the midst of chaos and we rise while others go low.

“We are a family built for times like this, and the electorate will know in the coming months why we insist the people are the centre of our transformational style of politics,” Ashiru said.

On socio-economic challenges in the country, Ashiru said that ADC remained the hope for the common masses.

He said the party would continue to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians and demonstrate its capacity for transformative leadership in the coming months.

Ashiru reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress, urging members to remain focused on the collective goal of national development.

He also reiterated the party’s dedication to the growth and success of Lagos State.

Ashiru said: “ADC’s vision is not built around individuals or caucuses, but around the need for us all to put our hands on a common oar and pull ourselves from a red ocean into safer seas.

“To this vision we are earnestly committed, despite all the machinations and ochestrations against the vision, either from within or from without. We shall overcome.

“We acknowledge our unique differences, our individual motivations, and our choices of political platforms.

“Yet, we have one thing that binds us together. Our love for our nation. ADC Lagos is the true family for us all.

“To this we are committed, for Nigeria’s greatness we will continue to stand, for the great success of Lagos we are greatly driven. We stand on our motto.”
